This piece emerged from a project about mapping the self in 2024. The reference object was a brass frog ornament that I have had for a number of years. I am very fond of it, of frogs and of all animals, and I have fond memories of buying it in an antique shop in England. I incorporated ordnance survey lines into the drawing, as if the frog were a map viewed from above, and to suggest water. I used charcoal and a ghost drawing technique.

For me, this piece evokes the joy of frogs, and on a subconscious level, the joy of trawling through antique and junk shops for a little gem full of personality.

I hope you enjoyed finding out about the inspiration behind this frog drawing.
